Individual Recovery

INDIVIDUAL RECOVERY PHASE

With the crisis of the discovery or disclosure of infidelity managed, whether you are the betrayed partner or the spouse who committed the infidelity, you each face an intense time of individual recovery work. During this phase of recovery, some tasks are the same for both of you. Others are complementary tasks.

It is often helpful for couples to live separately during the individual recovery phase. With the wounds of infidelity still raw, and not having the basics of individual recovery in place, neither of you, the betrayed partner or the addict/spouse who committed the infidelity are being the best version of yourself. Couples are vulnerable for adding to the complex trauma that already exists. Words that are spoken cannot be unheard and actions that have been taken can never be undone.

Once the core set of individual tasks has been competed, you will need to come together to assess the viability of your relationship and discern the path forward.
